The bill would prohibit a school district from requiring a student to use an identification device that used radio frequency identification technology or similar technology to identify the student, transmit information about the student, or track the student's location. The bill would permit the voluntary use of wireless identification systems if authorized by a resolution adopted by the school district board of trustees. A school district using wireless identification would be required to provide an alternative identification system at the timely written request of a student's parent or guardian. Local Government Impact No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated. School districts that chose to implement wireless identification systems would be required to permit a student's parent or guardian to request in writing an alternative method of identification.
