The bill would amend the Civil Practice and Remedies Code, Chapter 142, to limit liability for an employer premises owner or contractor solely for negligently hiring a person convicted of a criminal offense and includes circumstances in which the limitation of liability does not apply. Multiple agencies including the Office of the Attorney General (OAG), the Office of Court Administration (OCA) and the Department of Public Safety (DPS), and various regulatory agencies indicate no significant fiscal impact and that any costs associated with the bill could be absorbed within each agency's existing resources. Local Government Impact No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
