The bill would establish a statewide task force on campus sexual assault. The bill includes provisions regarding membership of the task force and general duties of the task force. Under provisions of the bill, a member of the task force is not entitled to compensation for service on the task force but, from money available to the comptroller to pay miscellaneous claims, is entitled to reimbursement for travel expenses as provided by Chapter 660, Government Code, and the General Appropriations Act. The taskforce is required to submit a report, no later than December 1 of each even-numbered year, to the governor, lieutenant governor, and the speaker of the house of representatives. The report is required to include a description of the activities of the task force, the findings of the task force on the current state of sexual violence on higher education campuses, recommendations on best practices for higher education policies and protocols for responding to reports of sexual assault and providing coordinated victim support services and any other matter the task force considers relevant. Any costs associated with the bill will be implemented within current resources. Local Government Impact No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
