The bill would amend the Local Government Code to authorize a county with a population of more than 250,000 and located along an international border to exercise urban renewal powers in areas of the county that are not within the corporate boundaries of a municipality. A county with a population of more than 250,000 and located along an international border may exercise urban renewal powers in areas of the county within the corporate boundaries of a municipality if the municipality approves the county's participation in a project through an interlocal agreement under Chapter 791 of the Government Code. Under current statute, the powers apply to a county with a population of more than 1.3 million. Local Government Impact No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
