                    LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD    Austin, Texas      FISCAL NOTE, 83RD LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION            March 28, 2013      TO: Honorable Geanie Morrison, Chair, House Committee on Elections      FROM: Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board     IN RE:HB1857 by Burkett (Relating to the elimination of straight-party voting for county or precinct offices.), As Introduced    No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.  The bill would amend the Election Code to eliminate straight-party voting for county or precinct offices. It would also require the Secretary of State (SOS) to prescribe procedures to inform voters that a straight-party vote does not count in an election for a county or precinct office. SOS indicated that any costs associated with the bill could be absorbed within the agencys existing resources. The bill would amend the Election Code to eliminate straight-party voting for county or precinct offices.
