LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE, 83RD LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION April 8, 2013 TO: Honorable Tan Parker, Chair, House Committee on Corrections FROM: Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE:HB1992 by Smith (Relating to the transfer of certain inmates to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice following pronouncement of the inmate's sentence.), As Introduced No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. The bill would amend the Code of Criminal Procedure as it relates to the transfer of certain inmates to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) following the pronouncement of the inmate's sentence. Under the provisions of the bill, certain felony offenders sentenced to a term of incarceration of less than 10 years would be transferred to TDCJ upon pronouncement of the sentence even if the defendant has provided notice of an appeal. For this analysis it is assumed implementing the provisions of the bill would not result in a significant impact on the programs and workload of state corrections agencies or on the demand for resources of those agencies. Local Government Impact No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
