The bill would amend the Family Code to expand the services contractors of transitional living services are required to provide to include food and nutrition instruction. The bill would also require foster care providers to add training on using public transportation to the experimental life skills training provided to certain foster care youth. The changes in law made by the bill would apply only to a person who enters into a contract with the Department of Family and Protective Services to provide transitional living services for foster youth on or after the effective date of the bill. The bill would take effect immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, otherwise the bill would take effect September 1, 2013. The Department of Family and Protective Services does not anticipate any significant fiscal impact as a result of complying with the provisions of the bill.
