The bill would amend the Insurance Code relating to the coverage by certain health benefit plans for the screening and treatment of autism spectrum disorder. The bill would require health benefit plans to provide coverage for screening for autism spectrum disorder at the ages of 18 and 24 months. The bill would apply to a health benefit plan delivered, issued for delivery, or renewed on or after January 1, 2014. Based on information provided by the Texas Department of Insurance, Teacher Retirement System, University of Texas System and Texas A&M University System, it is assumed that any costs associated with the implementation of this bill would be absorbed within existing staff and resources. Local Government Impact No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
