A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to withdrawal from the uniform group insurance program by
certain school districts.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Section 1579.152, Insurance Code, is amended to
read as follows:
Sec. 1579.152. PARTICIPATION OF OTHER SCHOOL DISTRICTS.
(a) Effective September 1, 2005, a school district with more than
500 employees may elect to participate in the program.
(b) Except as provided by Subsection (c), a school district
may elect to withdraw from the program on or after the fifth
anniversary of the date the district elected to participate under
Subsection (a).
(c) A school district that elected to participate under
Subsection (a) before September 1, 2013, may elect to withdraw from
the program on or after September 1, 2018.
(d) A school district that elects to participate or withdraw
under this section shall apply for participation or give notice of
withdrawal in the manner prescribed by the trustee by rule.
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2013.
