The bill would amend the Government Code requiring certain information concerning a resident of the state that is disclosed by a member of the legislature or the lieutenant governor to the Department of Family and Protective Services or certain governmental units to remain confidential unless the member or lieutenant governor elected to disclose the information. If a department or governmental unit that is a covered entity under Section 181.001(b), Health and Safety Code, receives a request for public information under Chapter 552, the department or governmental unit is required to notify the member of the legislature or the lieutenant governor, in writing or by electronic means of the request. The bill would take effect immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house. Otherwise, the bill would take effect September 1, 2013.
