The bill would amend Chapter 171 of the Health and Safety Code relating to the standards of medical information provided in the informational materials developed by the Department of State Health Services (DSHS) provided to a woman who is considering having an abortion. The bill requires that DSHS only publish information related to Chapter 171 that conforms to standards adopted by the National Institute of Health and its partner organizations. The bill would take effect immediately if a two-thirds majority vote in both houses of the Legislature is received. Otherwise, the bill would take effect on September 1, 2013. Based on the analysis provided by DSHS, it is assumed that the provisions of the bill can be implemented within existing resources. Local Government Impact No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
