                    LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD    Austin, Texas      FISCAL NOTE, 83RD LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION            February 18, 2013      TO: Honorable Jimmie Don Aycock, Chair, House Committee on Public Education      FROM: Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board     IN RE:HB596 by Villarreal (Relating to state assessment of public school students.), As Introduced    No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.  The bill would amend several provisions related to the state assessments and state accountability systems. The bill would limit the conditions under which a student could retake a state assessment. This analysis assumes that any savings realized from fewer students retaking end-of-course assessments would be minimal. Based on the analysis of the Texas Education Agency, the duties and responsibilities associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be accomplished by utilizing existing resources. The bill would apply beginning with the 2013-14 school year. Local Government Impact No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
