The bill would amend the Health and Safety Code as it relates to newborn screening of congenital heart defects. Under the provisions of the bill, the Department of State Health Services (DSHS) would be required to perform newborn screenings for disorders listed as core or secondary conditions to the extent that funding is available. It is assumed that the provisions of the bill can be implemented within existing resources. Local Government Impact No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
