Under provisions of the bill, an institution of higher education is entitled to obtain criminal history record information that relates to a student, or to an applicant for admission as a student, who applies to reside in on-campus housing at the institution. The criminal history information obtained may be used by the institutions chief of police or the institution's housing office for the purpose of evaluating current students or applicants who apply to reside in on-campus housing. The criminal history information collected may not be released or disclosed to any person except on court order or with the consent of the person who is subject to the information. As soon as practical after the beginning of the academic period for which the person's housing application was submitted, all criminal history information collected must be destroyed. Any costs associated with the bill would be implemented within existing resources. Local Government Impact No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
