The bill would amend the Government Code to allow a beneficiary of a member of the Employees Retirement System to assign certain death benefits to be paid directly to a funeral director or funeral establishment for funeral services. The bill would take effect on September 1, 2013, and would apply only to a benefit that is payable on or after January 1, 2014. The Employees Retirement System anticipates any additional costs to implement the bill could be absorbed with existing resources.
