H.C.R. No. 108 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION WHEREAS, An inspiring couple whose lives have been enhanced by a great and enduring love, Kevin and Linda Hirt of St. Lawrence celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on January 17, 2012; and WHEREAS, Kevin Hirt and the former Linda Newman met while attending Sul Ross State University in Alpine; they were united in matrimony at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Garden City in 1987, and the wedding day was filled with surprises, as a massive ice storm engulfed the region and the bride was sprayed by a skunk; following their nuptials, the couple went on to build their home in a cotton field and to establish a successful cotton farming enterprise; and WHEREAS, Respected members of their community, Mr. and Mrs. Hirt have remained valued members of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, and they have served on numerous church boards and organizations and assisted with parish fund-raisers; in addition, they have been active in school groups, helped with FFA shows, and coached Little League teams; Mrs. Hirt's involvement in the local community has also included volunteering as a Girl Scout leader and a YMCA basketball coach, while Mr. Hirt has served as a member of the Glasscock County School Board, the Cotton Growers Board, and the Knights of Columbus; and WHEREAS, Over the years, their family has grown to include three daughters, Julie Dawn Hirt Spittler, Melissa Gayle Hirt, and Rachel Elizabeth Hirt, as well as a granddaughter, Avery Elizabeth Spittler, and a son-in-law, "Trey" Spittler; and WHEREAS, While innumerable changes have taken place in the world during the past 25 years, this devoted husband and wife have remained constant in their commitment to each other, and the strength of their love has enabled them to meet life's challenges and opportunities with grace and optimism; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the 83rd Legislature of the State of Texas hereby congratulate Kevin and Linda Hirt on their 25th wedding anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Hirt as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
