 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
 WHEREAS, The firearms and ammunition industry has
 experienced phenomenal growth in recent years, and expansion of
 this manufacturing sector in Texas could bring significant benefits
 to the Lone Star State; and
 WHEREAS, In 2012, the firearms and ammunition industry was
 responsible for more than $30 billion in total economic activity;
 and
 WHEREAS, Companies that manufacture, distribute, and sell
 firearms, ammunition, and hunting equipment employ nearly 100,000
 Americans; moreover, it is estimated that they generate an
 additional 110,000 jobs in supplier and ancillary industries; jobs
 in the industry pay over $46,000 in wages and benefits on average,
 and despite a challenging economy, the industry created more than
 26,000 jobs over the past two years; and
 WHEREAS, A diverse and vibrant economy benefits all Texans,
 and the firearms and ammunition industry has great potential to
 contribute to the future prosperity of our state; now, therefore,
 be it
 RESOLVED, That the 83rd Legislature of the State of Texas
 hereby request the lieutenant governor and the speaker of the house
 of representatives to create a joint interim committee to study
 recruiting firearms and ammunition manufacturers to Texas; and, be
 it further
 RESOLVED, That the committee's proceedings and operations be
 governed by such general rules and policies for joint interim
 committees as the 83rd Legislature may adopt.
