H.R. No. 1044 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Six musicians from Midway High School received special honors in the 2013 Texas Music Educators Association All-State competition, and this fine showing indeed merits recognition and commendation; and WHEREAS, The TMEA All-State designation is the highest achievement that a Texas secondary school music student can earn; more than 60,000 young people from around the state compete annually to perform in one of 13 All-State bands, orchestras, and choirs; musicians are ranked by a panel of TMEA judges based on their regional auditions, and a select group advances to perform in one of seven area competitions; only the most accomplished performers from the area contests qualify for one of the All-State music ensembles; and WHEREAS, Demonstrating great skill and dedication, Hannah Burnett was selected to represent Midway in the All-State Orchestra for her performance on viola, while Elaine Sury, an alto 2, and Natalie Guess, a soprano 1, were both named to the All-State Women's Choir; in addition, Kasie Meek, an alto 2, Katherine Burns, a soprano 2, and Abby Bennett, an alto 1, were chosen as choir alternates; and WHEREAS, These talented young musicians are a source of pride to their families, teachers, and fellow students, and they may indeed look to the future with anticipation toward the many exciting opportunities that lie ahead; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Abby Bennett, Hannah Burnett, Katherine Burns, Natalie Guess, Kasie Meek, and Elaine Sury on their success in the 2013 Texas Music Educators Association All-State competition and extend to them sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the students as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
