 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The year 2013 marks the 30th anniversary of the
 founding of the Sin Fronteras Organizing Project; and
 WHEREAS, Carlos and Alicia Marentes, longtime members of the
 farm labor movement, established the project in 1983 to fight
 against the injustice and inequality faced by farmworkers in West
 Texas and southern New Mexico; and
 WHEREAS, Headquartered in south El Paso, the organization
 offers numerous services to the more than 14,000 farm laborers who
 live and work in this region of the border between the United States
 and Mexico; at the Centro de los Trabajadores Agricolas
 Fronterizos, or Border Farm Workers Center, the project provides
 shelter, legal help, and programs, including English and arts
 classes, to those who work in the fields as well as to low-income
 local residents; and
 WHEREAS, The cultural heritage of the area is reflected even
 in the architecture of the Centro, and its different sections are
 designed to appear like a village with buildings coming together to
 create a community; moreover, the walls are decorated with murals
 that narrate the workers' journeys and reflect the spirit of their
 struggle; and
 WHEREAS, While Mr. and Mrs. Marentes continue to lead the
 organization, Sin Fronteras is overseen by a board of directors
 composed of a civic leader and six farmworkers; in addition,
 dedicated staff and volunteers, including farmworkers and their
 families, help the project meet the needs of the community; and
 WHEREAS, For three decades, the Sin Fronteras Organizing
 Project has worked to advance the financial, social, and political
 status of farmworkers, and it is indeed fitting to recognize its
 accomplishments on the occasion of this milestone year; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
 Legislature hereby honor the Sin Fronteras Organizing Project on
 the 30th anniversary of its founding and commend the group's
 administrators, staff, and volunteers for their service; and, be it
 further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
