 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Univision has the largest audience of
 Spanish-language television viewers in the world, and it is
 continuing to grow as the Latino population grows; and
 WHEREAS, The network's roots lie in San Antonio, where, in
 1955, Raul Cortez founded a television station that led eventually
 to the creation of the Spanish International Network, the first
 non-English-language TV network in the United States; in 1986, the
 growing network's name was changed to Univision, and in 1988, it
 began to produce programming for a national audience; and
 WHEREAS, Headquartered in New York, today Univision boasts a
 strong presence on cable and satellite TV as well as affiliate
 stations in 24 states and in the District of Columbia and Puerto
 Rico, including such major markets as Los Angeles, Seattle, Denver,
 Chicago, Minneapolis, Kansas City, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Miami,
 Boston, and New York City; the network's 10 Texas affiliates
 include stations in Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston, El Paso, Amarillo,
 and Austin; and
 WHEREAS, Univision's popular programming encompasses the
 full spectrum of genres and styles, including the hit Saturday
 night show Sabado Gigante, compelling telenovelas, reality shows,
 situation comedies, variety programs, and the network's flagship
 news program, Primer Impacto; since January 2012, much of its
 primetime programming has been subtitled for English audiences,
 further broadening its appeal, and in 2013, Univision, in
 partnership with ABC, is launching Fusion, an English-language news
 channel for Hispanic audiences; and
 WHEREAS, Univision provides diverse cultural representation
 and a powerful voice for the fastest growing demographic in the
 nation, offering entertainment, information, and inspiration to
 countless Americans of all backgrounds; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Univision for its success and
 extend to the network's management, employees, and artists sincere
 best wishes for the future; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Univision as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
