No. 1163 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Scott Sheffield, a respected engineer and businessman, is being inducted into the Petroleum Hall of Fame on April 18, 2013; and WHEREAS, The Petroleum Hall of Fame, which is based at the Permian Basin Petroleum Museum in Midland, recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the development of the petroleum industry or who have inspired others through their achievements, service, or strength of character; and WHEREAS, A graduate of The University of Texas, Mr. Sheffield began his career as a reservoir engineer with Amoco Production Company; he went on to become the fifth employee of Parker & Parsley Petroleum Company in Midland in 1979, and 12 years later, he was named chair and CEO of the business; and WHEREAS, Under Mr. Sheffield's direction, Parker & Parsley merged with MESA, Inc., in 1997 to form Pioneer Natural Resources Company; as CEO and chair of the board, he oversees an operation that is considered a world leader in developing liquids-rich shale plays and ranks as the third most active operator in the United States; his corporate stewardship has also resulted in Pioneer being named the leading energy company in the Top 100 Places to Work in both the Dallas-Fort Worth area and in Texas; and WHEREAS, Mr. Sheffield has shared his expertise with the National Petroleum Council, America's Natural Gas Alliance, and the Maguire Energy Institute of the SMU Cox School of Business; and WHEREAS, Through his inspired innovation, Scott Sheffield has distinguished himself as a successful and influential figure in an industry that is such a vital part of the Texas economy, and it is appropriate to take this opportunity to recognize him; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Scott Sheffield on his induction into the Petroleum Hall of Fame and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Sheffield as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
