 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Hope Clinic in Garland provides essential services
 that benefit underserved individuals and families in the community;
 and
 WHEREAS, First opened in January 2002 as a mission of the
 First Baptist Church in Garland, Hope Clinic is a full-service
 health care facility that treats uninsured area residents; through
 the contributions of some 38 volunteer physicians, 2 part-time paid
 doctors, and many donations and grants, the clinic provides a wide
 range of services from pediatrics to dermatology to cardiology and
 more; and
 WHEREAS, In addition to offering direct services, the clinic
 cooperates with a variety of other agencies to ensure that patients
 receive comprehensive care; the staff helps patients obtain
 prescription medications and refers those who need services beyond
 their capabilities to partners such as Baylor Medical Center at
 Garland; Hope now also benefits from the generous support of seven
 area churches and the proceeds of an annual prayer breakfast; and
 WHEREAS, The work of the clinic has expanded greatly to meet
 the needs of the community; in the past five years alone, the number
 of patient visits has grown from 660 to 5,145 per year, and an
 average of 100 to 120 individuals are treated each week; an
 exemplary model of a well-run organization, it has been able to
 deliver approximately $2 million of services to the community in
 2012 with a budget of just $400,000, effectively providing $5 of
 health care for every $1 of donations; and
 WHEREAS, For more than a decade, Hope Clinic has helped
 Garland residents lead healthier and more productive lives, and the
 staff and volunteers of this notable establishment are indeed
 worthy of recognition; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
 Legislature hereby recognize Hope Clinic for its valuable
 contributions to the Garland community and extend to all those
 involved with it sincere best wishes for continued success with
 their important work; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the clinic as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
