 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Harold and Barbara Monical of Lake Jackson have
 deservedly been named 2012 Philanthropists of the Year by the
 Community Foundation of Brazoria County; and
 WHEREAS, Residents of Lake Jackson since 1943, the Monicals
 have shared their time and talents with numerous causes and
 organizations; Harold Monical is a former regent of Brazosport
 College, and he served as a member of the board of First National
 Bank for more than three decades; he has coached for Little League
 baseball and the Girls Softball League, and he has been recognized
 by the Boy Scouts of America and by the Junior Achievement of
 Brazoria County, which inducted him into its Business Hall of Fame;
 now retired, he began his career with the family-owned business
 Monical & Powell and later served as president of U.S. Contractors;
 and
 WHEREAS, Barbara Monical led efforts to build the Lake
 Jackson Historical Museum and served as president of its board, and
 she has additionally contributed to the American Cancer Society,
 the Junior Service League, Brazosport Memorial Hospital, the
 Brazosport College Foundation, and the Community Foundation of
 Brazoria County as a member of their boards; over the years, she has
 further distinguished herself as a volunteer for the Girl Scouts,
 A. P. Beutel Elementary School, and the Salvation Army; she was
 recognized as the Brazosport Area Chamber 2004 Outstanding Woman of
 the Year and as a Steel Magnolia by the Southwest SIDS Research
 Institute; and
 WHEREAS, Among the other worthy organizations that benefit
 from the couple's support are Texas A&M University, Texas State
 University, the Make-a-Wish Foundation, and the American Heart
 Association; locally, Mr. and Mrs. Monical are involved with
 Brazosport Christian School, Southwest SIDS Research Institute,
 the Boys and Girls Club of Brazoria County, United Way of Brazoria
 County, and Habitat for Humanity; they have been active members of
 First Baptist Church for more than 60 years, where Mr. Monical has
 long served as a deacon; and
 WHEREAS, Dedicated to their fellow citizens, Harold and
 Barbara Monical have set an outstanding example of leadership and
 generosity, and it is indeed a pleasure to honor them for their many
 good works; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Harold and Barbara Monical of Lake
 Jackson on their selection as 2012 Philanthropists of the Year by
 the Community Foundation of Brazoria County and extend to them
 sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it
 further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Monical as an expression of high regard
 by the Texas House of Representatives.
