No. 1325 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The Palacios High School robotics teams turned in stellar performances at the Texas FIRST Tech Challenge Houston Championship Tournament at San Jacinto College on March 8, 2013; and WHEREAS, The FIRST Tech Challenge allows participants to demonstrate their knowledge of sound engineering and design principles while also helping them to develop other valuable skills; this exciting event involves teams of up to 10 students who design, build, and program their own robot; and WHEREAS, With their first-place finish, the Palacios High CyberSharks captured the Inspire Award while the RoboSharks, the school's second team, won third place and received the Think Award; and WHEREAS, Outdistancing their nearest competitor by 60 points, the CyberSharks will join 126 other robot crews representing 17 countries at the world championships, an event for which more than 2,500 teams vied for invitation; formed in 2010, the CyberSharks team currently consists of captain Alondra Gonzalez, co-captain Bryson Huitt, Ann Marie Gonzalez, Margaret Castanon, Joshua Lindley, Sarah Nguyen, Matthew White, Blake Huitt, Aaron Morton, and Randall Jasek; the group is led by physics teacher and retired engineer Warren Morris, with assistance from technology teacher James Post and math teacher Marilyn Phillips; and WHEREAS, The CyberSharks and RoboSharks are a source of great pride to their school and community, and their award-winning efforts at the Houston Championship Tournament are indeed deserving of recognition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the CyberSharks and RoboSharks robotics teams of Palacios High School on their performance at the Texas FIRST Tech Challenge Houston Championship Tournament and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the teams as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
