 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, John Lenz has performed invaluable service to his
 community, both as a veteran firefighter with the Austin Fire
 Department and as a longtime member of the board of directors for
 the North Austin Municipal Utility District No. 1; and
 WHEREAS, A veteran of the U.S. Army, Mr. Lenz joined the
 Austin Fire Department 19 years ago, and he successfully competed
 with hundreds of candidates to earn promotion to driver and then to
 lieutenant; in his current role as captain, he supervises four fire
 stations, and he also serves as acting chief in the absence of his
 immediate superior; when fire broke out in South Austin near the
 Circle C development in 2011, Captain Lenz assisted in saving many
 homes, and his skill, courage, and leadership have earned him the
 lasting respect of his coworkers and the public; in addition,
 Captain Lenz has worked as a training officer at the AFD's training
 academy, helping to educate and inspire the next generation of
 firefighters; and
 WHEREAS, Despite the demands of his professional duties,
 Mr. Lenz found the time to serve his community as a member of the
 board of directors of the North Austin MUD No. 1; over the course of
 his tenure, he helped change his neighborhood's name from Milwood
 to Rattan Creek to avoid confusion with another area, participated
 in the successful effort to postpone the neighborhood's annexation
 by the City of Austin until 2023, spearheaded the installation and
 repair of fire hydrants, and worked with the county to improve
 crosswalks and the center striping of roads; and
 WHEREAS, In his role as a firefighter, John Lenz has helped
 protect the lives and property of his fellow citizens, and in his
 role as a community leader, he has greatly benefited his
 neighborhood, and he may indeed take pride in his outstanding
 record of dedication, professionalism, and service to others; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
 Legislature hereby commend John Lenz for his service to the Austin
 Fire Department and to the North Austin Municipal Utility District
 No. 1 and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be
 it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Mr. Lenz as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
