No. 1414 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Family and friends will long cherish their memories of Roy Chester Gentry of Odessa, who passed away on February 1, 2013, at the age of 70; and WHEREAS, The son of the Reverend Willie Gentry and Lillie Gentry, Roy Gentry was born in Taylor on May 18, 1942; he grew up in Odessa, graduated from Blackshear High School and Odessa College, and earned a degree in sociology from The University of Texas of the Permian Basin; and WHEREAS, Mr. Gentry served the congregation of Bethel Baptist Church as pastor from 1975 until the time of his passing; he was also employed for a time by the Ector County Independent School District as a suspension teacher; Mr. Gentry took an active role in numerous charitable organizations, including Head Start, United Way, Crime Stoppers, Harmony Home, and the Globe Theatre; and WHEREAS, He shared a fulfilling marriage with his wife, Laura, and was the father of three daughters, Daphne, Kesia, and Regina, and a son, Chetwin, who preceded him in death; with the passing years, Mr. Gentry welcomed into his family 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Roy Gentry enjoyed a life that was rich in the intangibles that matter most, and he is deeply missed by all those who held him dear; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Roy Chester Gentry and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his wife, Laura Gentry; to his children and their spouses, Daphne Gentry, Kesia and Steven Gregory, and Regina and Jeff Jackson; to his brothers, Robert, Johnny, Charles, Ronnie, and Larry and his wife, Debbie; to his sister, LoEtta; to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Roy Chester Gentry.
