H.R. No. 1433
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Evelyn Addis is retiring from Canton Elementary
School in May 2013, drawing to a close a notable tenure in education
that has spanned more than four decades; and
WHEREAS, A graduate of Southern State College in Magnolia,
Arkansas, Mrs. Addis has been teaching kindergarten in the Canton
Independent School District for nearly a quarter-century; she began
her career in Texarkana, Arkansas, and over the years, she has also
taught at elementary schools in Springdale, Arkansas, and in
Irving, Arlington, and Grapevine; while working in Grapevine, she
furthered her own studies by taking graduate courses at Texas
Woman's University; and
WHEREAS, This dynamic educator has known she wanted to teach
from an early age, and she pursued her dream with enthusiasm; in the
classroom, she uses a variety of dynamic instructional methods to
engage her young students and to help them build a strong foundation
for future learning; moreover, she has written several books to
help both students and teachers, including Come Walk with Me, Math
Talk, ABC Order for Beginners, and Monday Morning Leadership for
Kids with Paw Paw and Baxter; and
WHEREAS, Through her dedication, professionalism, and
commitment to excellence, Evelyn Addis has made a positive
difference in the lives of many young Texans, and she may indeed
take pride in a career well spent as she embarks on the next
exciting chapter of her life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Evelyn Addis on her retirement from
Canton Elementary School and extend to her sincere best wishes for
continued happiness; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mrs. Addis as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
