H.R. No. 1435
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Max Callahan is retiring from the Canton Independent
School District on May 15, 2013, drawing to a close a notable tenure
in education that has spanned four decades; and
WHEREAS, The valedictorian of his class at Canton High
School, Mr. Callahan went on to earn a bachelor's degree at East
Texas State University in 1973; and
WHEREAS, He began his career that same year as an American
history teacher at Canton Junior High School; in 1985, after
earning a master's degree in education from ETSU, he was appointed
principal of the school; he served in that position until 2000, when
he became principal of Canton High School; in 2008, he returned to
the classroom and is finishing out his career as an American history
teacher; and
WHEREAS, This accomplished educator has contributed to the
greater community as well, and he served as a T-ball coach for some
20 years; he is also a longtime member of First Baptist Church,
where he helped organize and lead the first children's church and
played an instrumental role in the establishment of the bus
ministry; moreover, Mr. Callahan was named the Canton Chamber of
Commerce Man of the Year in 1991; and
WHEREAS, Over the past 40 years, Max Callahan's dedication,
professionalism, and commitment to excellence have greatly
benefited countless young Texans, and he may indeed reflect with
pride on his accomplishments as he embarks on the next exciting
chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Max Callahan on his retirement from
the Canton Independent School District and extend to him sincere
best wishes for the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Callahan as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
