H.R. No. 1487 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Ryan Kjos has been named the head baseball coach at Gateway College Preparatory School in Georgetown; and WHEREAS, A former High School Player of the Year in his native Minnesota, Mr. Kjos was a star pitcher for The University of Texas at Austin in the mid-1990s, winning the Most Valuable Player Award during the 1994 Southwest Conference Tournament and helping the Longhorns earn two College World Series appearances; and WHEREAS, This exceptional athlete was drafted by the Minnesota Twins as a high school player and then drafted again by the Detroit Tigers following his junior year at UT; after his final year at UT, he signed a contract with the Oakland Athletics and played four years in their minor league system; and WHEREAS, Mr. Kjos has coached baseball teams for the past 12 years and has two United States Specialty Sports Association Elite 24 World Series appearances to his credit; in all of his assignments, he has focused on helping players to develop a disciplined approach to the game and a solid understanding of baseball fundamentals; and WHEREAS, In addition to his other responsibilities, Mr. Kjos is a partner in the Triple Play Sportsplex in Georgetown; moreover, he is a frequent presenter on the biomechanics of throwing at sports medicine clinics, for which he draws on the knowledge he gained while earning his degree in kinesiology at UT; and WHEREAS, Ryan Kjos brings extensive baseball experience to the Gateway College Prep program as well as a desire to help young people reach their full potential, and the school's educators and students are justifiably excited to welcome him to the faculty; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Ryan Kjos on being selected as the head baseball coach at Gateway College Preparatory School and extend to him sincere best wishes for success in the years ahead; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Kjos as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
