H.R. No. 1583 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Locally owned and operated retail businesses are fundamental to Texas communities, and on February 23, 2013, Ron Zimmerman celebrated 40 years of doing business in Irving as the owner of Al's Rent to Own; and WHEREAS, The business was founded by Mr. Zimmerman's father as Al's Sewing Center in 1967; as time went on, the elder Mr. Zimmerman added other products such as stereos, and he eventually owned seven separate stores; and WHEREAS, Ron Zimmerman was already an experienced salesman when he took over one of the locations on South Main Street in Irving in 1973, and he became the sole owner of the business after his father passed away 26 years ago; and WHEREAS, Situated in a former five-and-dime, Al's Rent to Own has dealt in a variety of products over the past four decades, moving from electronics to furniture available for purchase on a rent-to-own basis; and WHEREAS, Mr. Zimmerman has not only built a loyal clientele over the years, but he has also been active in the community through his work with Irving's Preservation and Redevelopment Board and the Downtown Merchants' Association, taking particular interest in the redevelopment of the Heritage District; and WHEREAS, Mr. Zimmerman is an outstanding businessman whose long-standing relationship with his customers and commitment to his community have helped to make Irving a special place to live, and he may indeed take pride in his four decades of achievement; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Ron Zimmerman on the 40th anniversary of his ownership of Al's Rent to Own in Irving and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Zimmerman as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
