H.R. No. 1591
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, A 60th wedding anniversary marks a lifetime of
mutual devotion and shared experiences, and James and La Donna
Johns of Van are celebrating this joyous milestone in their
marriage on June 5, 2013; and
WHEREAS, James Dewy Johns and the former La Donna Sue Orkie
were joined in matrimony in 1953 in Dumas; through the years, the
high school sweethearts have been blessed with a treasured family
that includes four children, Debra, Cynthia, Kevin, and Vickie, as
well as five grandchildren and a great-grandson; and
WHEREAS, Respected members of their community, Mr. Johns
served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and is
retired from truck driving, and Mrs. Johns worked as a nurse with
the Country Inn Healthcare Center before serving as the Van
Elementary School manager of food services; and
WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Johns have enjoyed six decades of
abiding love and affection for each other, and they are among an
exceptional group of men and women who can claim such a lasting
commitment; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate James and La Donna Johns on their
60th wedding anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes for
continued happiness; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Johns as an expression of high regard by
the Texas House of Representatives.
