No. 1606 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The Honorable Todd Meier, who has served as mayor of Addison with outstanding skill and dedication, is being returned to office for a second term starting in May 2013; and WHEREAS, Since assuming office in 2011, Mayor Meier has devoted his efforts to invigorating the local economy, which has seen steady growth with the establishment of a multitude of new businesses in the city; moreover, he has honored a commitment to public safety by enhancing existing services, and he has followed through on a pledge to encourage participation in the civic life of the community; to keep citizens informed about municipal government affairs, he has promoted such avenues of communication as public conferences, weekly newsletters, blogs, and the live streaming of council meetings; and WHEREAS, Mayor Meier's previous public service included stints as a member of the Addison Town Council and as vice chair of the local planning and zoning committee; currently vice president of the Metroplex Mayors Association, he is a graduate of Leadership Dallas, the Citizens Academy of Addison, and Leadership Metrocrest; in addition, he has volunteered his time with a number of community organizations, among them Addison Addvocates, the Addison Business Association, the Greenhill School Investment Committee, the Addison Arbor Foundation, the Salesmanship Club of Dallas, and the HP Byron Nelson Championship, as well as with the boards of directors for Metrocrest Social Services and the State Fair of Texas; and WHEREAS, A graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, Mayor Meier earned a law degree from Southern Methodist University and subsequently worked as an assistant district attorney for Dallas County, during which time he handled more than 300 jury trials; now an attorney with Shackelford, Melton & McKinley in Dallas, he holds membership in the State Bar of Texas, the Dallas Bar Association, and the Fellows of the Texas Bar Foundation; and WHEREAS, Mr. Meier's professional career also includes service as president and general manager of Rodger Meier Cadillac, Meier Oldsmobile, and Meier Infiniti, in addition to leadership of a private investment firm that he founded in 1998; and WHEREAS, This distinguished Texan is the proud father of two children, Brennan and Mackenzie, who are following in his footsteps by forging careers in law and in business; and WHEREAS, Throughout Mr. Meier's tenure as mayor, his vision, acumen, and unwavering commitment to excellence have contributed to increased economic opportunity and quality of life and earned him the respect and admiration of countless fellow citizens; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the Honorable Todd Meier on his reelection to the office of mayor and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness in the coming years; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mayor Meier as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
