 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, On January 22, 1973, the U.S. Supreme Court decision
 in Roe v. Wade confirmed that the constitution protects every
 woman's ability to make her own personal medical decisions, without
 the interference of politicians; and
 WHEREAS, Reproductive health is a vital component of women's
 overall health, and reproductive freedom is equally vital to
 women's safety and well-being; and
 WHEREAS, Women need access to a range of safe, affordable
 reproductive health care services throughout life, including
 cancer and sexually transmitted infection screenings,
 contraceptive services, abortion care, prenatal care, and labor and
 delivery services; and
 WHEREAS, The federal government recognizes that health care
 is essential to protect the ability of individuals to fully
 participate in their family, community, and society, and in order
 to support people in achieving that goal, the government partially
 or fully subsidizes health insurance and health care services for
 individuals who meet certain eligibility criteria; and
 WHEREAS, It is the public health goal of the State of Texas to
 enhance the health of all citizens, including women of all ages, and
 to strengthen individuals and families by encouraging and promoting
 access to comprehensive family planning services; and
 WHEREAS, For 40 years, Roe v. Wade has established women's
 rights to make medical choices for themselves and has strengthened
 the ability of women's doctors to make medical decisions based on
 their best judgment; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
 Legislature hereby commemorate the 40th anniversary of the landmark
 U.S. Supreme Court decision of Roe v. Wade and recognize the
 critical importance of continued access to a safe and legal
 abortion.
