 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, In the past three years, fifth grader Brittany
 Harris has raised more than $10,400 to fund the building of water
 wells and provide farm animals to communities in Africa; and
 WHEREAS, The daughter of Chad and Mandy Harris, this
 motivated young woman began her project, Brittany's Dream, at the
 age of nine, when she learned about the lack of safe drinking water
 across much of Africa; through the global nonprofit organization
 World Vision, one traditional well costs $2,600 and can provide
 more than 600 gallons of potable water a day, completely
 revitalizing the life of an entire community; and
 WHEREAS, During the Thanksgiving holiday, Brittany bakes
 desserts to raise money for her project, advertising her products
 beforehand via e-mail and flyers; this year, with the help of
 several additional volunteers, she baked more than 85 pies, 450
 cake balls, 18 dozen mini pies, and 5 dozen cupcakes over three
 days, raising enough money to build two wells; in addition to
 baking, she takes responsibility for purchasing ingredients,
 packaging the desserts, arranging deliveries, and calculating
 profits; and
 WHEREAS, In recognition of her outstanding initiative,
 Brittany received the Service Above Self Award from the Friendswood
 Rotary Club; looking to the future, she hopes to continue building
 the operation, funding more wells each year; and
 WHEREAS, With her enthusiasm, hard work, and determination,
 Brittany Harris has improved health and quality of life for many
 individuals in need, and she is an inspiring example of how one
 person can effect positive change in the world; now, therefore, be
 it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
 Legislature hereby honor Brittany Harris for her achievements
 through Brittany's Dream and extend to her sincere best wishes for
 the future; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Brittany as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
