 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Jared Thames of Glen Rose High School claimed his
 second consecutive state championship at the Texas High School
 Powerlifting Association Division 2 State Meet on March 23, 2013,
 in Abilene; and
 WHEREAS, A senior competing in the 275-pound weight class,
 Mr. Thames recorded a squat lift of 700 pounds, a bench press of
 440, and a dead lift of 620; his total of 1,760 pounds surpassed his
 2012 title-winning tally of 1,700 and bested the second-place
 finisher by 50 pounds; and
 WHEREAS, Guided by coach Terry Harlin, Mr. Thames has spent
 long hours in the weight room striving to perfect his technique; he
 is the first powerlifting champion from Glen Rose High as well as
 the first competitor in school history to win back-to-back state
 crowns in any sport; he will continue his athletic career at the
 collegiate level as a member of the football team at Tarleton State
 University; and
 WHEREAS, With his dedication and unwavering commitment to
 excellence, Jared Thames is a source of great pride to his school
 and his community, and he will forever treasure the memory of his
 remarkable accomplishments; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Jared Thames on winning the 2013
 THSPA Division 2 state championship in the 275-pound weight class
 and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be
 it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Mr. Thames as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
