 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Alexandra Marie Vasquez of IDEA Academy and College
 Preparatory Mission has been accepted into the summer 2013 session
 of Subiendo: The Academy for Rising Leaders at the McCombs School of
 Business of The University of Texas at Austin; and
 WHEREAS, The Subiendo Academy is a weeklong intensive
 leadership training program offered to Texas high school students;
 participants work in groups to discuss solutions to major problems
 facing Texas, meet with business leaders and policy makers to
 review and assess their findings, and create a summary presentation
 of their proposals for legislative staff and the media; and
 WHEREAS, The student body president at IDEA Academy and
 College Preparatory Mission, Ms. Vasquez has been named a
 Distinguished Texas Scholar and an AP Scholar, and she is a member
 of the National Honor Society; a campus ambassador for her school,
 she has given tours to potential students and donors and has
 participated in several panels with officials from the Texas
 Education Agency; and
 WHEREAS, This enterprising young Texan founded a model United
 Nations, led her delegation at the international UN conference in
 Washington, D.C., and helped the chapter raise $25,000 for charity
 during a three-year period; Ms. Vasquez is also a graduate of the
 National Hispanic Institute, where she was named the "top
 attorney," was a finalist in extemporaneous speaking, and won an
 invitation to participate in the National Great Debate; and
 WHEREAS, Alexandra Vasquez's hard work and proven commitment
 to excellence are certain to provide her with a solid foundation for
 the future, and she may indeed take great pride in being selected
 for this prestigious program; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Alexandra Marie Vasquez on her
 acceptance into the Subiendo Academy at The University of Texas at
 Austin and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success;
 and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Ms. Vasquez as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
