H.R. No. 1930
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Proud members of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.,
are gathering in Houston for the 81st Grand Chapter Meeting from
August 6 to 11, 2013, and this event provides a welcome opportunity
to recognize the organization for its notable contributions; and
WHEREAS, Established on the campus of Indiana University in
Bloomington, Kappa Alpha Psi was born of the desire to create a
fraternity based on the highest ideals of brotherhood, a group open
to all individuals regardless of ethnicity, creed, or national
origin; on January 5, 1911, the Ten Illustrious Founders, Elder
Watson Diggs, Ezra Dee Alexander, Byron Kenneth Armstrong, Henry
Tourner Asher, Marcus Peter Blakemore, Paul Waymond Caine, George
Wesley Edmonds, Guy Levis Grant, Edward Giles Irvin, and John
Milton Lee, chartered the fraternity; these notable men of
character continue to exemplify the lofty standards that the group
sets for all its members; and
WHEREAS, The organization today has chapters in every state
as well as in Germany, the Bahamas, South Africa, and South Korea;
through its numerous programs and initiatives, Kappa Alpha Psi
seeks to promote the spiritual, social, intellectual, and moral
welfare of its members and to educate the leaders of today and
tomorrow about issues relevant to the African American community;
moreover, the group's collegiate and alumni branches seek to
further the goals of their colleges and universities and to promote
civic engagement; and
WHEREAS, For more than a century, Kappa Alpha Psi has
enriched the lives of its members and has rendered invaluable
services to the communities in which its chapters are located; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
Legislature hereby commemorate the 81st Grand Chapter Meeting of
Kappa Alpha Psi and extend to all its members sincere best wishes
for a memorable event; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
