R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Meistersingers at Midway High School in Woodway
earned three UIL Sweepstakes trophies at the 2013 Concert and
Sight-Reading Contest on April 8, 2013; and
WHEREAS, The annual competition serves as a platform for
large groups of singers to perform classical choral literature;
each ensemble is charged with singing prepared pieces as well as
sight-reading a piece of music before a group of adjudicators, who
evaluate each group on its stage performance and sight-reading
ability; only those who receive Division I Superior ratings in all
UIL contests in a given school year earn the prestigious
Sweepstakes Award; and
WHEREAS, In this year's contest, the Meistersingers' mixed
choir, varsity women's choir, and varsity men's choir all received
Division I Superior ratings, and their exemplary performances
earned Midway High School its first three choral Sweepstakes
trophies as a 5A school; and
WHEREAS, Through long hours of practice and an unwavering
commitment to excellence, the Midway Meistersingers have developed
into an accomplished ensemble that is a source of great pride to its
school and to its many community supporters; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate the Midway High School
Meistersingers on earning three UIL Sweepstakes trophies at the
2013 Concert and Sight-Reading Contest and extend to all those
associated with the choir sincere best wishes for continued
success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the group as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
