 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Syamantak Payra, a seventh-grade student at
 Westbrook Intermediate School in Friendswood, tied for first place
 in the 2013 HoustonPBS Spelling Bee and is now heading to
 Washington, D.C., to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee;
 and
 WHEREAS, This talented 11-year-old previously won the
 MetLife South Asian Spelling Bee in 2012 and has distinguished
 himself in science competitions as well; he won first place in the
 physics and astronomy division at the 2013 Clear Creek Independent
 School District science fair, and at this year's Science and
 Engineering Fair of Houston, he placed second in scientific writing
 and third in the physics and astronomy division; he took first in
 science at the 2012 Texas Math and Science Coaches Association
 state championship meet and competed in the 2013 American
 Mathematics Contest, where he earned commendation for his high
 score; and
 WHEREAS, Also a gifted musician and writer, Syamantak was the
 top violin soloist in his category at a 2012 state music contest,
 and he has had numerous poems and essays accepted for publication;
 his accomplishments have qualified him for national-level
 recognition in the Duke University Talent Identification Program;
 and
 WHEREAS, The son of proud parents, Pramatha Payra and
 Sanjukta Ghose, Syamantak Payra has demonstrated impressive
 ability, determination, and poise under pressure, and he may indeed
 look forward to a future that is bright with promise; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Syamantak Payra on tying for first
 place in the HoustonPBS Spelling Bee and qualifying for the Scripps
 National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., and extend to him
 sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Syamantak as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
