No. 1972 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Joe Garay of Valley Hi Elementary School has been selected as a First Year Educator of the Year for 2012-2013 by the Northside Independent School District in San Antonio; and WHEREAS, Mr. Garay joined the faculty of Valley Hi Elementary in 2012; previously, he was an elementary computer technologist, serving for four years at Valley Hi, for four years at Meadow View Elementary, and for a decade with Southwest ISD; for the past year, Mr. Garay has taught third grade and has engaged his students' interest through such activities as taking campus nature walks to identify photosynthesis and playing music that relates to the topic of study; and WHEREAS, In addition to his innovative instructional methods, Mr. Garay creates an atmosphere of mutual respect in the classroom, encouraging pupils to be inclusive and urging the members of his class to support one another in their learning efforts; and WHEREAS, His desire to improve the lives of young people is further reflected in the assistance he offers older students in filling out college and job applications and by helping them earn community service credits through tutoring; a man of strong faith, Mr. Garay has also founded a community church and a ministry to serve youth groups in the San Antonio area; and WHEREAS, Teachers play a vital role in preparing the next generation of Texans for the challenges and opportunities of the future, and Joe Garay works to instill in his students a love of learning that will serve them well throughout their lives; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Joe Garay on being named a 2013 Educator of the Year by the Northside Independent School District and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success in his important work; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Garay as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
