H.R. No. 1973 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Courtney Lemley of Briscoe Middle School in San Antonio has been selected as a 2013 First Year Educator of the Year by the Northside Independent School District; and WHEREAS, Ms. Lemley is a seventh-grade teacher of Texas history who started at Briscoe midterm last year; she quickly developed a good rapport with her students, and she has also emphasized communication with parents and collaboration with her peers; by developing several different approaches to lessons, she engages her students and reaches those with special needs or alternative learning styles, using technology and other techniques to make learning fun and accessible; and WHEREAS, An active and energetic teacher, Ms. Lemley has created an optional enrichment class that many of her students attend, and she is a cosponsor of the school's student council and helps to teach Saturday classes for students in need of remedial classroom time; moreover, she set up the school's first flag corps and has organized a school-wide Veterans Day program; and WHEREAS, Teachers play a vital role in preparing the next generation of Texans for the challenges and opportunities of the future, and Courtney Lemley works to instill in her students a love of learning that will serve them well in every aspect of their lives; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Courtney Lemley on her selection as a 2013 First Year Educator of the Year by the Northside Independent School District and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Lemley as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
