R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Plano East Senior High School Marching Band has
been awarded the 2013 Sudler Shield Award from the John Philip Sousa
Foundation; and
WHEREAS, Endowed by Louis and Virginia Sudler and
administered by the John Philip Sousa Foundation, the Sudler Shield
is an international award recognizing high school and youth
marching bands of world class excellence; only a handful of awards
are given every year, and past winners include bands from across the
United States, as well as from Japan, the Netherlands, Indonesia,
and Thailand; and
WHEREAS, The musicians of the Plano East Panther Marching
Band joined this esteemed company when they were awarded the 2013
Sudler Shield at the foundation's annual meeting in Chicago; under
the guidance of director Evelio Villarreal and associate directors
John Brennan and Lee Redfearn III, the band earned high praise for
its excellence in musical performance, marching execution,
choreography, and show design by a panel of judges; the Sudler
Shield Committee chair, W. Dale Warren, is traveling from the
University of Arkansas to formally present the Panther Band with
the award at the group's spring concert; and
WHEREAS, Through hard work, dedication, and perseverance,
the talented student musicians of the Plano East Senior High School
Marching Band have earned great distinction for themselves and
their school with this prestigious award; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate the Plano East Senior High School
Marching Band on its receipt of the Sudler Shield Award from the
John Philip Sousa Foundation and extend to the band's directors and
musicians sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the band as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
