H.R. No. 2003
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, R. David Guerrero was named 2013 Citizen of the Year
at the 76th annual Alice Chamber of Commerce Banquet held on April
23, 2013; and
WHEREAS, An active and respected community leader,
Mr. Guerrero has enjoyed a 14-year tenure as district clerk of Jim
Wells County and is a longtime board member for the Alice
Independent School District; he additionally holds a seat on the
board of directors for the Community Action Corporation of South
Texas; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Guerrero has generously committed his talents
as a fund-raiser for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life,
which has seen steady growth since 2006, when he took on the role of
event chair; as of 2012, he has helped to bring in more than
$800,000 in behalf of research and support programs for cancer
patients and survivors, and this year, the event is projected to
reach the $1,000,000 benchmark; in 2011, he received the coveted 5
Star Award for surpassing all fund-raising goals; and
WHEREAS, Among other local events that he has helped guide to
success are the Jim Wells County Fair and the Brush Country Bash,
and he has for many years served as an executive staff member for
the Miss Texas USA pageant; moreover, this dynamic citizen has
given of his time to benefit the area business community as a member
of the Alice chamber's board of directors; and
WHEREAS, Frequently recognized for his civic engagement,
Mr. Guerrero was designated Citizen of the Year in 2012 by the Alice
Board of Realtors; his honors and accolades further include the
2009 District Clerk of the Year Award for Region 8, the 2001 Alice
Alumni Award in acknowledgement of his outstanding leadership to
the community, and the 1994 Alice Chamber of Commerce Lifetime
Member Award; and
WHEREAS, The vitality of a community depends in large measure
on the passion and dedication of its residents, and through his
tireless volunteerism, R. David Guerrero has in myriad ways
contributed to the betterment of life in Alice; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate R. David Guerrero on his receipt of
the Citizen of the Year award from the Alice Chamber of Commerce and
extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success and
happiness; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Guerrero as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
