 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Kristen Franki was named Junior Citizen of the Year
 at the 76th annual Alice Chamber of Commerce Banquet held on April
 23, 2013; and
 WHEREAS, Ms. Franki is a senior at Alice High School, where
 she ranks first in her class in academics and has been listed on the
 all-"A" honor roll each semester since her freshman year; active in
 myriad extracurricular activities, she is currently president of
 her school's National Honor Society club and has been inducted into
 the National Society of High School Scholars; she has also served as
 president of the Spanish Club and was a member of the school honors
 band for three years, practicing with both the French horn and
 mellophone; and
 WHEREAS, This bright and accomplished young Texan is
 cocaptain of the school chess team and has helped guide the girls'
 team to two state championships; she has further participated in
 Academic Octathlon, during which time her team won regional and
 state championships, and Academic Decathlon, where her team
 attained a regional championship and turned in an impressive
 fourth-place showing at the state level; moreover, she is a
 three-time state qualifier in the history fair and has competed in
 UIL in the areas of science, current events, news writing, and
 editorial writing; and
 WHEREAS, In addition, she has played a dynamic role in her
 community, serving as a youth representative for the public library
 board and a Parent Teacher Student Association student liaison, as
 well as devoting her time to such worthy causes as the American
 Cancer Society Relay for Life, the Boys & Girls Club of Alice, the
 Del Cielo Adult Daycare, and the Hispanic Heritage Pet Parade; in
 recognition of her distinguished civic service, she was presented
 with a Rotary Youth Leadership Award; and
 WHEREAS, Kristen Franki is an eminently deserving recipient
 of this prestigious honor, and the remarkable level of talent,
 drive, and enthusiasm that she has demonstrated heralds a future
 bright with opportunity and promise; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Kristen Franki on her receipt of
 the Junior Citizen of the Year award from the Alice Chamber of
 Commerce and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued
 success and happiness; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Ms. Franki as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
