 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Frances Etheridge retired from Garriga Elementary
 School in June 2012, drawing to a close 47 years of service to the
 Point Isabel Independent School District; and
 WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of Port Isabel, Mrs. Etheridge
 received an associate's degree from Texas Southmost College,
 graduated summa cum laude from Pan American University, and earned
 a master's degree in bilingual education from Texas A&I University;
 and
 WHEREAS, Mrs. Etheridge began her career with Point Isabel
 ISD in 1965 as a paraprofessional and later took on secretarial
 duties before becoming a teacher at Garriga Elementary; during the
 course of her distinguished tenure, she served on a number of
 district committees and was chosen as the Walmart Teacher of the
 Year in 1996, selected as the inaugural inductee into the PIISD Hall
 of Fame in 2002, and voted by her colleagues as Garriga Elementary
 Teacher of the Year in 2012; she has also been listed in Who's Who
 Among America's Teachers; and
 WHEREAS, This esteemed educator's contributions to her
 community extend beyond the classroom; currently on the board of
 the Port Isabel Beautification Committee, she has also held seats
 on the boards of the Boys and Girls Club of Laguna Madre and Port
 Isabel Public Library, volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, and
 been a member of the Port Isabel Tarpons Quarterback Club; she is
 active in several church ministries and has helped make prayer
 blankets for the sick; for her efforts, she was honored in 2012 with
 the Service Award from the Rotary Club of Port Isabel; and
 WHEREAS, In all of her endeavors, Mrs. Etheridge enjoys the
 love and support of her son, Henry Etheridge, Jr., his wife,
 Elizabeth, and her grandson, Henry Etheridge III; and
 WHEREAS, Frances Etheridge demonstrated an unwavering
 commitment to her students, and she may indeed reflect with pride on
 the positive difference her hard work and dedication made in the
 lives of countless young Texans; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Frances Etheridge on her
 retirement from the Point Isabel Independent School District and
 extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Mrs. Etheridge as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
