 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The boys' soccer team from Coppell High School
 continued the school's tradition of excellence in the sport by
 winning the University Interscholastic League 5A state
 championship on April 20, 2013, in Georgetown; and
 WHEREAS, In the thrilling title match against Brownsville
 Hanna High School, the Cowboys were trailing 2-1 in the second half
 until midfielder Chris Madden scored the game-tying goal on a free
 kick with 3:32 remaining in regulation; the teams then continued
 their battle into overtime, and with less than a minute left in the
 second overtime period, Mr. Madden drilled a shot into the lower
 right corner of the net, clinching the victory for his team; and
 WHEREAS, The win gave Coppell its second soccer crown since
 2004 and its first under the leadership of head coach Chad
 Rakestraw; the Cowboys finished the year with an impressive record
 of 23 wins and just 2 losses; and
 WHEREAS, The team's excellent play in the postseason was
 recognized with a number of accolades; Mr. Madden was chosen as the
 championship game Most Valuable Player, and he was joined on the
 All-Tournament Team by Austin Michaelis, Mitchell Parnell, and
 Drake Lovelady; the Cowboys also received valuable contributions
 throughout the season from the other members of the roster: Dustin
 Hodges, Josh Jauregui, Dante DiCiolli, Kevin Tovson, Jacob Tucker,
 Jarett Weaver, Emilio Morlett, Chad Thomas, Zanil Narsing, Wyatt
 Foster, Austin Broyles, Nick Hazelrigg, Neal Tatum, Mitchell Apple,
 Kellen Reid, Justin Todd, Corey Oesch, Nick Price, Stephen
 Wheatcroft, Stephen Tower, Jack Burns, Colten Clark, and Robbie
 Coens; and
 WHEREAS, Coach Rakestraw was aided in his efforts by
 assistant coaches James Balcom and Blake Johnson, and the team also
 benefited from the expertise of trainers Barry Jones and Yvette
 Carson, student trainers Dale Wood and Austin Pang, and
 statistician and manager Jake Candler; additional support was
 provided by athletic director John Crawford, principal Mike Jasso,
 and superintendent Dr. Jeff Turner; and
 WHEREAS, In proving themselves the finest boys' 5A squad in
 the Lone Star State, the Coppell soccer players have demonstrated
 exceptional teamwork and dedication, and their achievement is a
 source of great pride to their school and their many supporters in
 the community; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate the Coppell High School boys'
 soccer team on winning the 2013 UIL 5A state championship and extend
 to the team's players, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for
 continued success; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
