No. 2116 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The celebration of the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Texas Longhorn Breeders Association of America in Fort Worth on May 10, 2014, presents a fitting opportunity to commemorate the achievements of this noteworthy organization; and WHEREAS, Established in 1964 in Lawton, Oklahoma, the TLBAA has grown from 30 members that first year to some 3,000 members in eight countries today, along with 23 affiliate organizations in the United States and overseas; headquartered in Fort Worth since 1981, the organization works to promote awareness of Texas Longhorn cattle as a distinct breed and to preserve its unique heritage; and WHEREAS, The TLBAA has registered more than 400,000 animals over the past five decades; in addition, the association helps owners to maintain the breed's purity and encourages other ranchers to develop herds of the cattle; the organization also supports scientific research into the ancestry of the Texas Longhorn and into future breeding; and WHEREAS, Each year, the TLBAA hosts the Texas Longhorn Expo in Fort Worth, which includes the TLBAA World Open Show as well as the National Youth Show of the affiliated organization, the Texas Longhorn Breeders of Tomorrow; as part of its anniversary celebration, the group is also unveiling a new office building and museum at the Fort Worth stockyards; and WHEREAS, Texas Longhorn cattle have played a central role in the history, culture, and agricultural economy of the Lone Star State, and for half a century, the TLBAA has performed an invaluable service by working to preserve the heritage and ensure the future of this iconic Texas breed; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the Texas Longhorn Breeders Association of America on its 50th anniversary and extend to its officers and members sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the association as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
