No. 2201 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Catherine Ferguson, the mother of our esteemed colleague, the Honorable Helen Giddings, passed away on May 3, 2013, at the age of 89, and with her death, a full and generous life has drawn to a close; and WHEREAS, Born in the Dallas Metroplex on August 12, 1923, the former Catherine Warren was the youngest of 11 children of Norris and Susie Warren; she married her high school sweetheart, L. D. Roberts, and the couple were blessed with a daughter, Helen, with whom she shared a special bond; and WHEREAS, Following the passing of her husband, Mrs. Ferguson was fortunate enough to find love again with Arthur Ferguson, and together they enjoyed many happy years of marriage; she was devoted to the care of her home and her family, which grew to include three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Ferguson earned a reputation for her exceptional culinary skills, delighting her relatives and friends with delicious meals; eventually, she established a successful home-based catering business and became renowned for her specialty cheesecake; and WHEREAS, In all of her endeavors, Mrs. Ferguson drew inspiration from her Christian faith; active in Greater New Bethel Baptist Church for most of her adult life, she later joined her daughter and granddaughter in attendance at St. Luke "Community" United Methodist Church; and WHEREAS, Cherished by all who knew her, Catherine Ferguson leaves behind an enduring legacy of warmth and kindness that her loved ones will forever carry close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Catherine Ferguson and extend deepest sympathy to the members of her family: to her daughter, Helen Giddings; to her grandchildren, Camellia Kennedy and her husband, Yardley, Lisa Fields, and Stanley Giddings; to her great-grandchildren, Yarmon, Geoffrey, Marcus, Jakeob, and Jordan; to her great-great-grandchild, Yale Kennedy; and to her other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Catherine Ferguson.
