H.R. No. 2714 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The esteemed group Los Paisanos was inducted into the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center Conjunto Music Hall of Fame during the 32nd annual Tejano Conjunto Festival in San Antonio in May 2013; and WHEREAS, In 1962, brothers Carlos, Juan, Raul, and Gabriel Johnson, scions of a musical family, formed Los Paisanos in San Antonio; the band developed a strikingly original style by incorporating diatonic button accordion, piano accordion, and keyboards into its arrangements, and audiences thrilled to the emotional, operatic vocals of front man Carlos "Chalito" Johnson; and WHEREAS, Los Paisanos recorded a number of early hits, including their signature song, "La del Moño Colorado"; evolving with the times, they scored a gold record in the 1980s with "El Gorrion y Yo"; although Raul Johnson died in 1996 and Gabriel Johnson in 2009, Chalito and Juan Johnson continue to perform with the group from time to time, and they reunited for the induction ceremony; and WHEREAS, Through the years, Los Paisanos have brought joy to innumerable conjunto fans through their distinctive sound and heartfelt renditions of beloved songs, and this prestigious accolade is a testament to the enduring appeal of their music; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Los Paisanos on their induction into the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center Conjunto Music Hall of Fame and extend to Chalito and Juan Johnson sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the group as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
