No. 2796 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Every day, Texas firefighters courageously risk their lives in the performance of their duties, and on February 15, 2013, Ricky Dale Mantey, Jr., of the Bryan Fire Department was gravely injured while fighting a fire; and WHEREAS, Around 11 p.m. that night, a faulty electrical cord caused a fire at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Bryan, and firefighters soon arrived on the scene and entered the burning building; and WHEREAS, During the course of the incident, two firefighters were trapped by the flames and killed; Mr. Mantey and another firefighter suffered extensive burns and were transported to a special unit at The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston; and WHEREAS, Mr. Mantey is a native of Somerville, and that community has rallied to support him and his family during his recovery, raising money for a fund and putting up red ribbons around the town; and WHEREAS, Texans are fortunate that there are brave individuals such as Ricky Mantey who are willing to face danger on a daily basis to protect the lives and property of others, and Mr. Mantey may face the challenges ahead secure in the knowledge that he has earned the admiration and gratitude of his fellow citizens; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas Legislature hereby commend Ricky Mantey, Jr., for his heroism and dedication to public safety and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Mantey as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
